Step One: Shift Your Perspective on “Small Talk.”

Often feared at dinner parties or social gatherings, engaging in interactive conversation can feel overwhelming. However, instead of dismissing it as unnecessary chatter, why not embrace banter? Connecting with the person beside you, ahead of you in line, or in the lobby expands your network in a meaningful and personable way. Bonus points if you spark a conversation by complimenting them on their jewelry! While it may be tempting to look at your phone or scroll aimlessly through random posts during gaps between activities, take the time to acquaint yourself with those around you. Step Two: Maximize Your Social Media Presence. 

During your time at Dare to Dream, we challenge you to put the “social” in social media! After striking up a friendly conversation with one of your fellow Consultants, why not take it a step further? 

 

• Follow each other on social media and watch your list of connections grow! With this tool, you'll be able to virtually connect with your new friends both online and offline.

• Exchange phone numbers. Sometimes, you need the listening ear of a friend, and there's no better place to meet them than at Dare to Dream. Give each other a call or text to ask for advice and stay connected.

• Create a group chat and challenge yourself to add at least one new person each day, turning it into a hub of interactive learning. No matter the project, teamwork makes the dream work!

 

You never know—the people you meet could be from your own region, state, or community! How exciting is that?

 

While social media is entertaining, it’s also a fantastic networking tool. It allows you to connect with those who share your empowering mindset. Attending new events is an exciting way to engage with others. However, what happens after you leave? Often, connecting with others post-event is the most crucial step in networking. After mastering networking in person and online, the next step is to invest in personal growth. Explore self-improvement books, listen to podcasts, and attend seminars or conventions to surround yourself with like-minded individuals. To get the most out of each experience, consider doing the following: 

 

• Keep a journal with you to track your progress. By jotting down your thoughts, you can review areas where you feel confident and identify questions for later. Journaling is a fantastic way to reflect on the material you've processed.

• Write down your main takeaways, and highlight the parts that stand out to you. This helps you remember the information you've learned. Whether you use sticky notes or take notes in your phone, it's all up to you!

• Reach out to experts with any follow-up questions. Identify people in your life who have achieved success in areas you aspire to excel in. Ask to meet them for lunch or coffee, and discuss how they managed their business to gather pointers on making yours thrive!
